NuPoint.net Internet Setup Instructions: Windows 95, 98 & ME

For use with PC’s running all versions of Windows 95, 98 or Millennium Edition

The following instructions assume that your personal computer has the following already installed:

Note that the screen shots included in this document were taken from a Win95 system. Win98 systems will include the same Win95 options as displayed herein, along with additional options which are not used for the NuPoint setup.

A window similar to the one shown below should appear. It will contain a Make New Connection icon, and may already contain dial-up icons for other dial-up services. (Note that if there are no dial-up connector icons in the Dial-Up Networking window, later releases of Win95 and Win98 will automatically start the Make New Connection setup wizard. If this occurs, skip the next step in these directions and proceed from the Make New Connection screen.)

i Note: If no modem name appears, your system does not have a properly installed modem available. In this case, click the Cancel button, exiting the Make New Connection procedure, and perform the steps needed to properly install a modem on your system.

(Note: The NetBEUI and IPX/SPX protocols do not need to be present to support a standard Internet dial-up connection, but may be needed to support logins and software functions if you are connecting to a corporate LAN or a running remotely controlled software which may rely on one of these protocols.)

This completes the standard Internet setup needed to connect with the NuPoint.net Internet server. The next section discusses the steps needed to dial the server and begin your exploration of the Internet.

Dialing the NuPoint.net Internet Server

After completing this procedure, your computer should be able to automatically dial NuPoint.net Internet Server when you start either Internet Explorer, Netscape or your Internet mail program by way of the Connect To screen shown below. The Connect To window allows for entry of your username and password, and optionally offers a checkbox controlling whether the password is maintained in the box each time you dial. Note that when entering your password, the screen does not show the actual characters as you type, displaying only asterisks. This is a normal security precaution.

After completing your dial-up procedure, you should be able to browse the Internet using Microsoft’s Internet Explorer (provided with Windows 95/98) or Netscape, and send/receive e-mail using the e-mail application of your choosing. The following is some information concerning e-mail configuration:

SMTP Server Name: nupoint.net POP3 Server Name: nupoint.net Server type: POP3

News Server: news.nupoint.net
